Hayat for Mayor – Seniors First

My Campaign Promise to Winnipeg Seniors

Winnipeg seniors deserve to live with dignity, safety, and independence. If elected Mayor, I will work with all levels of government and community partners to:

1. Protect Affordable Housing
   • Advocate for more affordable housing for seniors.
   • Support measures that help seniors age in place.
   • Oppose unfair renovictions and strengthen tenant protections.

1. Improve Safety & Security
   • Increase safety measures in senior housing.
   • Expand community policing and neighbourhood patrols.
   • Work with housing providers to address residents’ safety concerns.

1. Reduce Social Isolation
   • Expand senior recreation and community programs.
   • Support volunteer visitor programs and neighbourhood connections.
   • Encourage intergenerational activities that bring young people and seniors together.

1. Help Seniors Stay Independent
   • Improve snow clearing, sidewalks, benches, and accessible transit.
   • Support home maintenance assistance programs for seniors.
   • Make City services easier to access.

1. Listen to Seniors
   • Create a Mayor’s Seniors Advisory Council to ensure seniors have a direct voice at City Hall.
   • Hold regular town hall meetings in every ward to hear seniors’ concerns.

My commitment: Every senior deserves a safe home, affordable living, respect, and the opportunity to age with dignity in Winnipeg.
